K2 Exam Fever
Ha, exam fever's here to stay. Found myself holding on to Lauren's spelling list, and got her to spell words for me. Worse still, she will be doing her Chinese test tomorrow, and she dun have a clue about Chinese.
So much talk about a nearly mono-lingual family where kids simply detest Chinese. Man, how to cultivate interest in Chinese?
I am looking forward to the weekend....

that is weird because both you and your hubby speak good chinese... why don't you speak mandarin at home? i cultivated my liking for the chinese culture only when I was older... when I had a great tution teacher who helped me love the language and the rich history and culture linked to the Chinese people. Hey now I'm proud to be called a Chinese! Of course Zhang Wuji helped too :)

I asked lauren whether she is a heiren or huaren or bairen? She says she is a bairen....
Whenever I speak Mandarin, Lauren will be irritated. I will continue to do so.
Really, I want to send her to mandarin class liao....Cannot tahan!!

My fren sent her "kantang" son to some chinese classes in Bishan CC. Her son same age as your chilli padi... K2 grad.
Now she got him a Taiwanese tutor who seems to be quite good. The tutor sees her job primarily to help kids love the chinese culture and language and so her classes her structured around fun activities rather than academic mugging.
Plus my fren and her husband don't speak mandarin well so she sees this as a disadvantage for her boy. That's why she so kan cheong over his mandarin (lack of) progress.
